Carioca Bowls Launches Hot Food Menu

"To accompany its cold açaí berry bowls and donation-based yoga, Carioca Bowls...has instituted an all vegetarian and vegan hot menu with about 10 new bowls...Carioca adds the Samba Bowl, based on chef Matthew Lau's Brazilian feijoada family recipe, a black bean stew topped with house-made pico de gallo and toasted farofa (manioc with onion and garlic)."

Brazilian-inspired café offers superfood açaí bowls

"Carioca Bowls today announced its grand opening on Saturday, June 20, from 9 am to 6 pm. Carioca (Care-ee-o-ka) Bowls is Portland’s first authentic açaí (ah-sigh-ee) café. Cariocas are the natives to Rio de Janeiro and embody health, wellness, and vitality. The Cariocas were some of the first to embrace the açaí bowl as a way to nourish their active lifestyles. Carioca Bowls strives to make the most delicious and nutritious organic açaí bowls blending with Sambazon Organic Açaí and other organic fruits all topped with superfoods ranging from coconut oils to nut butters and hemp seeds.

This is truly a one-stop shop for health, wellness, and vitality. “Our mission is to be an accessible, welcoming place where people can always share and learn new information about health and wellness”, commented Chief Yogi Richard Matusow. Lau and Matusow were both executives at Sambazon and other natural foods companies for the past 15 years. Matusow is a certified yoga teacher with over 1,000 hours of training and has spent many months living in ashrams in India.

Carioca Bowls invested in the restoration to the property both indoors and outdoors to create a gorgeous garden patio and intimate indoor café. Renovations continue with a new pergola just installed, new outdoor tables/chairs/umbrellas, and a 700-square-foot outdoor yoga/performance platform. The murals and inspirational sayings are being painted by local muralist Christian Grijalva.
